So a few words about everyone getting pissed off about the Michael Brown Shooting in Ferguson Missouri: To all of you who are outraged by police corruption and abuse as well as the hideous drug war, I stand firmly beside you. However in this particular case the physical evidence in corroboration with several peoples testimony (I realize there is testimony to the contrary as well) seems to reveal that the Cop was acting in self defense when shooting. Now perhaps this is up for dispute. However let me go ahead and give you the benefit of the doubt that it is unclear who was the victim and who was the aggressor. I would put forward to you that placing all of this attention and resources in a case that is UNCLEAR who the victim and aggressor are, is setting our cause for exposing police corruption and abuse up for failure! If we all get behind someone we dont know is guilty or innocent in the name of this cause...and it turns out he truly is guilty and the cop was well within his right to shoot him...then that TOTALLY DISCREDITS OUR CAUSE! To me it seems quite possible that the media has given this case so much attention and fomented so much discontent BECAUSE they know the Michael Brown was the aggressor and that when this is made clear, that those who came to his defense under the name of police transparency and ending police abuse will be severely discredited....striking a major blow to our cause. All I ask is that if we want to use a particular case as a symbol for police abuse then fine...i think its a good idea...but let us atleast MAKE SURE the guy supposedly victimized by the cop was ACTUALLY A VICTIM AND NOT AN AGGRESSOR. Maybe then we will be taken more seriously and the cause of diminishing police power and exposing police abuse/corruption will gain traction.
