So a little update with Nathan... for all of you that know he - TopicsExpress

So a little update with Nathan... for all of you that know he suffers from ADHD... but what a lot of people dont see is how down deep intelligent he really is. We had a parent/ teacher conference today in which last we heard they were going to hold him back into the first grade. I dreaded going today.... I was seriously going to go off on anyone who said one bad thing about my sons intelligence because again its masked by his behavior issues. What they dont see is what we all see with him one on one. Any way they proceeded to tell us that they were going to hold him back... but out of the blue from the time that I returned back from Afghanistan in March he went from a reading level of 6 all the way up to a 16 (average is 18 by the time they leave 1st grade in which they have a little less than a month left) Did his DRA level (testing for the state) scored in reading was a 92% out of a 100 and his Math was an 80% in which they said its a long and pretty extensive at times difficult test I mean gosh... he just finally got it together. If you could have seen the Principals face when his teacher read that score to her it was almost like why are we sitting here debating whether we are going to hold him back. She had this I am impressed look on her face and even agreed with me that he is bored and needs to be more challenged. Final verdict they are not going to hold him back they see he struggles with his ADHD and sees us as parents working with him and the school. They are actually going to use him to test out their exercise ball sensory experience with him for next year. I guess creating a relationship with the staff since last year really helps with staying in one school district. This way they know everything and arent assuming like if we had to start them over into new schools all the time. This was my goal with them from the start was stability and it really is working. My kids both suffer from it and at times is extremely difficult to handle... there are people out there that dont agree with them having it and a good ole butt whooping is the answer but its not... and please dont comment if that is at all where you are going with this status. Its tough raising two of them... I just pray that they see past it one day and become two successful kids! Alright I am pretty sure I started rambling. Ryan and I both started tearing up when we heard the scores we are so proud of both our kids! regardless of their needs.
