So, a while back, there was this story... wsmv/story/25685283/crooks-impersonating-police-pull-over-rob-driver Familiar. But the most frustrating part of it was the blatant lie by Sgt. Robert Weaver in the report. He claimed Metro doesnt use those vehicles for traffic enforcement - which is very, VERY false. Were all seen them plenty of times. Metro has even made multiple press releases and media statements about their concerted efforts to use these units in traffic stops and enforcing the new mobile phone law. (In fact, this officer told me that they use these cars all the time among other gems.) Not only was this representation yet another a fiction told by those who supposedly stand up for truth and justice, but it misleads the public into a false sense of rarity, and thus more likelihood of a confrontation with an unmarked unit they choose to resist for fear of a similar robbery. What if one of the next people who encounters these unmarked cops while they are not being used primarily for traffic enforcement and they happen to be a young black male (which we all know ups the likelihood of an incident ending badly)? At best, this is sloppy misinformation from the guy who is supposed to be in the know - the President of their little boys club. At worst, it is coordinated public misinformation. To what end? To what further entrapment? The biggest irony here is that the officer I documented in these images is one who has pulled me over before. When he came to my window, I barely opened it and I demanded ID. He seemed insulted and put off, and confrontational that I would pursue both my rights (which he is in no place to question), but safety in general. Put all that together and you have to assume yet more of the worst about the flawed and out of control culture of the Metro Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, and all their brethren, really.
