So about those bees...Im wondering if maybe Ive bitten off more than I can chew. This morning, I witnessed some of my bees swarm. It was absolutely wild. Not at all scary or threatening. They are simply going on their merry way to find a roomier place to live. I had thought that Id gotten ahead of them by adding another box to the hive a few weeks ago. Apparently not. Having swarmed, I now decided that its important to immediately inspect the hives. I thoroughly inspected Hive 1 and cleaned it up. It certainly seems chock full of honeybees, with tons of honey and larvae and pollen. After I put everything back together, I decided Hive 2 can wait til tomorrow. So I walk away to the back of the property, still wearing my protective gear. And as soon as I unzip my hood, wham! I get stung in the corner of my left eye. It will soon close up as though Id taken a good shot to the side of my head. With assistance, we got the stingers out without squeezing the rest of the venom into me. Yes, I said stingers, plural. There were at least two. And then a kind hearted customer went to CVS to get me some benadryl. I guess its sunglasses at night, even, for now...
