So... after 24 hours of mulling, here are my thoughts on the movie Noah. 1. I dont know about or care about the directors or actors faith in the God of Judaism or Christianity. That is, I have the right to ignore and/or filter their individual and/or corporate (and Corporation) views on the Bible, the first Book of the Torah and the Noah narratives. Im not a victim, captive or stooge. Neither are you. 2. I didnt like the Ent-like, Transformer-type rendition of the nephilim. But it made me think. 3. I loved the images of the ark. Very cool. I love logistics, so I was intrigued with the how and where of animal habitation and upkeep. And the engineer in me was intrigued with the movies solutions about how the ark was constructed. 4. Im not worried that there was not any God language in the movie. The Noah narrative stresses that God the Creator was distressed with humanitys self-focus and selfishness. And their (and our) abandonment of the reality that we are part of the Creators world. Isaiah 43:1 captures it beautifully. 5. I sense (and Im likely wrong) that the creative team behind the movie was thinking: What if we made a great, big move that only used the first nine chapters of the First Book of Moses and didnt presume anything after that? That is the impression I get. 6. Im a Baptist, a descendent of English Believers who were persecuted in England, Wales and the New World for taking the Bible and interpreting it for themselves. WITHOUT permission, academic credentials or training. In spite if opposition, they relied on the continued Revelation of God the Father to steer their hand. 7. It has given the Almighty opportunity to speak to us all. Thanks be to God. 8. And it was worth a bucket if popcorn. Though, like Titanic, it is not a friend to a large, all-you-can-drink Diet Coke
