So after my rant, youre either like, Get off your pedestal Mangler. or So what were your favs this year, Mr. Bitter?! This post is for the latter: 10. A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night - Iranian film about a vampire. Black and white. Slow and engaging. First time female director. Artsy fartsy but great. 9. Purge: Anarchy - Simple premise, dont get caught outside. This group does. A mix of The Warriors, Surviving the Game and Escape from New York. 8. The Raid 2 - The martial arts in this movie are so good that a few of the actors just booked roles in Star Wars VII. 7. Maleficent - Best role Angelina Jolie has ever been in...including Gia. Great story twist. Amazing Disney fantasy. 6. Whiplash - If a movie about a drummer keeps me anxious, on the edge of my seat, praying that he does well...its quite an accomplishment. Bravo. 5. X-Men: Days of Future Past - I have loved the X-Men since I was 11. Totally biased but it was still fantastic. 4. Birdman - Edward Norton gives every film actor an acting class in this one. He was the best actor of ANYTHING this year. 3. The Imitation Game - Historic. Heartbreaking. Well written. Cumberbatch is worship worthy. 2. Edge of Tomorrow - I hate time travel movies. This was not. It was a start again movie. Totally underrated. Totally marketed wrong. The story blew me away. And, of course, Tom Cruise kills it again. (I want to dislike him so much but hes so good!) 1. Guardians of the Galaxy - How do you launch a bunch of space alien super heroes with origins and a plot into a 2 hour film? James Gunn did it like magic. Even comic book fans like myself didnt know the characters. It was action packed, funny, sad, exciting, heartfelt...I mean, take away the sci-fi of it, its a decent movie in any genre. Theres a reason it was the #1 Box Office winner of 2014. Let the rants begin...
