So after the dive I did some tidepools studies. Oh, my non-diver friends you would have so much fun. The shoreline of the dive site is quite uneven with lots of pockets of water and very shallow (less than 3 inches of water brushing over them.) The cove is about 300 yards wide and the tidepools extend out at least 20 feet.... 30 if you are willing to go to waist height... and it is a great place to snorkle. But, what I saw......... ahhhhh... Each pool .... maybe 100 pools ... had a black spinney urchin in it... but it also had some of the most fascinating soft stars. Watching them undulate their arms. I watched one of them move itself from one pool to another. There was a point were there was a tad bit of surf washing over and it had to plan its journey. So tempting to help it, but knowing that I had to not interfere. It made it across and it was fascinating to watch it figure out how to best manage the washes of water. Then just before I started back a tiny crab skittered across. It was as if it was looking up at me and figuring out where the safest place was to run away from me. It finally took off inland and ended up out of the pool and onto the pebbles on the beach.
