So all the time at the store or mall or out to eat or anywhere I always get asked either if the boys are twins or how far apart they are. When I answer 10 months its usually followed by a wow good luck or something along those lines. Tonight at kroger when we were waiting in line an older woman asked and I answered and after seeing the look on her face I told her holden is a preemie or they would be 12 months and her reply was a complete slap in the face. Oh well then you got a break first then ....... I got a break?!? What?!? Clearly since holden was in the NICU it gave me a break from having to deal with both babies....... What?!? Yeah, because it was so easy to split my time between my newborn baby and my ten month old baby? Yeah, because it was so easy to sit there and see my newborn baby strapped up to tons of wires and machines? Yeah, because it was easy to tell my ten month old why mommy was gone for days at a time? Yeah, because it was easy to get phone calls when I finally left the hospital that my newborns oxygen levels dropped significantly and he was being hooked to another monitor? NOOOOOOO!!!!! The NICU is not a daycare, the nurses are not babysitters, the Ronald McDonald house is not a spa getaway, and knowing that you have to choose which child to spend time is heartbreaking! We only spent four weeks in the NICU and I feel completely enraged, I feel horrible for the families and babies who spend months and months in there! Think before you speak people, seriously.
