So, an interesting day for the Bring Back the Blue Drill Shirt - TopicsExpress

So, an interesting day for the Bring Back the Blue Drill Shirt campaign. Our support is growing at a great rate....100 new likes in the past 3 days alone ! If we want to have any voice on this issue, we need to keep spreading the word amongst our RFS friends. Todays article in the Daily Telegraph was obviously in response to the VFFAs recent media release, which has followed the success of this Facebook page. We believe that representations have also been made to the Minister, so it will be interesting to see where this goes over the next few weeks. Sadly, we have heard from todays RFSA State Council Meeting at Armidale that the Division 4 Business paper, put forward by Hornsby/Ku-ring-gai Branch was not supported. We understand that there was a great deal of deliberation on the issue, with a number of alternatives discussed. However, as advised at the meeting, it is understood that the Commissioner seems unwilling to change his mind on the matter, and is basing his decision largely on scientific evidence showing that Yellow Shirts provide a greater protection from heat than Blue Drill Shirts. Given that the Yellow Utility Shirt is NOT issued as an undergarment to specifically wear during firefighting activties, we dont believe that this argument is really valid. A Utility shirt, whether Yellow or Blue, is worn in a variety of situations. By comparison, the new style Blue Drill Shirt (or T-shirt) issued to FRNSW firefghters are expected to worn under their PPC. Apples vs Oranges perhaps? Perhaps the RFS could post the Scientific Evidence to support their argument?
