So another packed year is over. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The last 10 days were busy with the final races of the year. Before Christmas we did the 1st Christmasscross in Mehlingen. Unfortunately there was not competition in the women elite category for me so I just raced for myself. Matthias came in 3rd and Julia won as always in the hobby races. After Christmas we went up north to the final two races of the German Cup in Herford and Vechta. In Herford I was not in form. I had no pressure and made a lot of silly mistakes. Somehow I woke up in the second last round and caught 4 women to come in 6th. I wish I had wokren up earlier ;-) Vechta was cold. The ground was frozen, but the sun was out to compensate for the low temperatures. Most of the course suited me well, lots of curves ;-) Unfortunately there were 3 run-ups that cost me dearly. I will have to practice that for next season. I came in 6th again. In the final standings of the German Cup I came 7th, equal points with the 6th woman and only 3 points away from 4th place. For my first season in cycling I think that is alright. There is definitively room for improvement. And since we were up in that part of Germany already, we decided to stay a few days longer to race the last race for 2014 at teh Weser-Ems-Cup Finale in Gesmold on New Years Eve. The night before it rained a lot and the ground was already soggy before that. So it came the way it had to come, it turned into a mud bath. But so it would not get boring, we had to ride through a beach volleyball field at the end of the lap and all the sand would stick to the rest of the mud on the gras making terrible grinding noises. The pit crews did a wonderful job cleaning the bikes though with the limited resources that were available to them on the course. The competition was strong. 5 of the top 7 girls in the German Cup were on the startline, not to forget the women that did not specifically race the German Cup but are also strong riders. The start was a litte chaotic with a crash in the race ahead of us. I got into the trail in 4th, but seemed to deal with the conditions a little better than Stephanie and Lena. Jessica did her own races at the head of the field. Stephanie and I put a gap between us and the rest of the field fairly quickly. Unfortunately I could not hold her wheel in the end and came in a solid 3rd. A good result to finish the year off. Lets see what this year will bring. I wish everyone a happy 2015!
