So, as a CrossFit Coach, one of the things I most regularly hear is people bashing the Kipping Pull Up. Ive heard people call it retarded pull-ups/ seizures on a bar/stupid and risky. That this movement makes no sense at all and only an idiot would perform it. Now, if someone has ever told you that, politely walk away or tell them they dont understand the basics of fitness and sports. Why? Because the Kipping Pull Up, also known as a Gymnastics or Bar Kip, is a foundational movement of gymnasts around the world! Its a very basic movement that they learn in order to get swift movement up and around a bar/pair of rings. So before listening to someone claiming to be an educated fitness professional, try checking out a video of any gymnast doing a bar or ring routine. Here, Ive included a video of Carl Paoli (Olympic Gymnast) going over the Kipping Pull Up. You could also look up Dave Durante, another olympic gymnast.
