So, as i prepare to leave Venice here are my top 3 choices. Golden Lion should, but wont, go to the greek sensation "Miss Violence" by Alexandros Avranas, that everyone thinks it is just like "Dogtooth" but i actually think it is better, smarter and more intimate. A very close number two goes to "Ruin" by the great aussie Amiel Courtin Wilson (one of the coolest and most promising young filmmakers out there watch out for him) and Michael Cody. And last but not least something in between "Pine Ridge", a brilliant Dannish documentary about modern native american indians, or "Sacro Gra", a very interesting italian documentary about life on the ring road in Rome, by Gianfranco Rosi...but if pressed would probably choose "Pine Ridge". Having said this, the true Gold Lion for best performance should go to the Ice Cream shop just next to the red carpet and the 12 writers and photographers that took the Nisimazine Venice 2013 challenge. Well done guys. Ciao Venezia ps- as a side note...yesterday i saw something i never thought i would see on the big screen: a monkey tripping on magic mushrooms (in 3D no less). Really, it was impressive. Not the most riviting film experience ever i should say, but it goes to show that cinema still has the power to surprise you ;) youtube/watch?v=rZ63JuWkSh4
