So as many of you may already know, In response to the recent influx of immigrants to the RGV, the University of Texas Pan American stepped up to help by collecting toiletries and other supplies to help those in need—especially children. There were seven locations of collection bins across campus and at two other UTPA facilities. For several weeks, the UTPA community came together to aid in the humanitarian crisis efforts on the border. Now, MAC (Minority Affairs Council) along with UWD (United We Dream) are going to take action for the same cause to a different level, for the reasons below. Meanwhile, the Church of Sacred Heart held refugees despite the threatening, hate calls such as Those ALIENS are NOT human beings. They need to go back to their country or die. MAC and UWD decided to have an action to show there are people that actually do care and are willing to come out and support. There will be opportunities to join us throughout the three days and each day has a peak moment where we are asking folks to please join Sacred Heart Church: 306 South 15th Street McAllen, TX 78501: *Thursday July 10th at 1pm - Kick off and volunteer opportunity (News Conference) *Friday July 11th at 12pm - Community Gathering (Re-union of community support) *Saturday July 12th at 10am – Fundraising Activities (Gather all donations for children) We need to let everyone know that even though we might be the poorest county in the nation, we care, we are humane and as a community we can succeed. P.S. These actions will be extremely life and moral rewarding (besides the fact of getting to feel the support of some famous artist, such as Tatiana, Dulce and Ramon Ayala who MIGHT be there physically as well). I feel the need to mention the experience my two friends whom visited the church yesterday received. As soon as they got in to volunteer everyone started clapping and some of the children or mothers may literally go up to you and hug you in appreciation of your support. I felt Goosebumps when I heard of this experience, and wanted to give you a heads up in case you do go and support/volunteer. Questions/ Suggestions/ Donations?
