So, as one does every so often, I checked out a Top X list of albums/bands one should be paying attention to. The list is cool…some oldies coming back and some crap also. Then I come across a band called Pulled Apart by Horses. A 4-piece band from Leeds who sound nothing like a UK band. I only catch a snippet of a tune taken from their 3rd album, Blood, and Im like yeah, lets check it out! :D Well the cover is cool right? Grungy even…The first track kinda reminds me of like a QOTSA meets a metal-ry-hard-rock-something-like-that…like from the 90s era. Im not quite sure what to make of it though…its not a bad album opener depending on what the rest sounds like. The second tune (ADHD in HD) makes me shout (in my head) Nirvana! I see now…whats next? Track 3 is Lizard Baby and I totally get whats happening here. Its Post-Pre-Grunge or something like that. Actually, dont pigeonhole this Jason you idiot! It reminds me of that era but I feel its got a little something extra. Dirtier distortion, classic dissonant notes, simple tunes that dont muck about…and even a touch of swagger. Its just really well put together…heck, fun even. Side note: Their bio says that they recorded their second album with the Pixies producer which is a cool box to tick I reckon. Anyway….these guys look pretty wholesome and still a bit raw so Im not sure theres too much nostalgia-wave-riding going on here.
