So as our rescues come back testing positive for heartworms, not - TopicsExpress

So as our rescues come back testing positive for heartworms, not only does it add several months till they are ready for adoption, but also require treatment and special care and more expense to saving that one dog and multiplies it by about 3 times. It is frustrating to say the least.. Our current heartworm Positive dogs are April & Snow both in foster to adopt, then we have Lady, and Tyberious. And thankfully we had another little one that left two weeks or so ago, that the adopter was willing to take on the expense and treatment on their own (blessing). Then I see a post that a rescue took in 11 rather small very adoptable dogs, but sadly every single one has tested heartworm positive placing them all at risk and leaving that rescue scrambling to figure out a solution to get the pets the treatment they need and save their lives. I remind you all of you to keep you pet on heartworm prevention it is spread by mosquitoes, so once one animal is infected in your home and the other pets are not on prevention they are all at higher risk. Two of our heartworm positive dogs where also from the same home and they have a third they are keeping with no treatment. If you Dont know about heartworms and the preventive methods as a dog owner you need to know. PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO EDUCATE YOUR SELF ABOUT HEARTWORM PREVENTIVE IT IS A MUST IN THE OKLAHOMA CLIMATE. THERE ARE INEXPESIVE WAY TO KEEP A LARGE GROUP OF DOGS ON PREVETIVE FOR UNDER $40 FOR ABOUT 2 YEARS DO YOUR RESEARCH. heartwormsociety.org/pet-owner-resources/heartworm.html
