So as some of you know today marked the two year mark from when my wife Sharla had to leave this world. In that time I have experienced many challenges, some of which felt like impossible hurdles. But I have also experienced many miracles along with happiness. Last year, on the year mark, I chose to be by myself for most of the day and just traveled to many of the favorite locations of both Sharla and I. I sat at each location and just remembered the memories that we had created there. This year though, was a different story. This year the focus was changed from a somber one to a joyous one. Though she is still utterly missed, she would have wanted us to spend the day doing the things she would have wanted us to do. We chose today to go to the Ravine Waterpark. The park has so many memories, including one of the last memories we ever had together. My beautiful girlfriend Kristy who is the greatest, and largest part of my new happiness after Sharlas passing was there today with me, and my kids and many others who all played giant roles in Sharlas life. Including two of her best friends Leah Bodily and Rhonda Evanoff. I must say that I had expected the trip to be very difficult, but with Kristy there by my side, the day felt right and amazing on top of that. Watching my kids go down new slides that they were not able to go down before (including my oldest going down the large green slide that almost goes straight down). The day was full of gentle reminders of why life is beautiful. The day I came to the realization that Sharla was never coming back, I no longer had a desire to move forward. My life felt destroyed and unpurposable. Today is a much different story. I have a woman in my life that holds me up and cheers me on. And I have kids who show me the importance of me being here with them. So much of their love flows deep within my veins. I am blessed to be a father and a boyfriend to an amazing woman. Another year will come and go, I know now that i can honestly say, i look forward to it.
