So as some of you may know by now, I have been working in a new environment for the past year and a half. It was not where I ever thought I would end up, but you do what you need to do, and so I have been working in a restaurant sometimes 6 days a week, never full time hours, not high pay, etc etc. I am doing this because they agreed to allow me to travel when I needed to, so there are advantages as well as the other involved. I will get to my point here: To the woman that got angry at me for asking her what she wanted as a side, and then turned really ugly when I needed her name for her order... My job does NOT define who I am. Just because You are standing on the other side of that counter does NOT make you better then anyone else. It does not give you the right to be rude, or insulting. I earn my living everyday when I get up at 5 am to get to work on time, and I stay an hour over my shift to help out. I have watched the people that work their hearts out at a restaurant many times, but until I did it myself I really had no idea how physically draining it is. And people come in when they are celebrating something,or they are tired, or they come on because they are lonely and we know them by name... They come in because it is a comfortable place for them to be... and we try hard to give them a smile, and perhaps fix their food to fit their dietary needs.. whatever. We are not there to annoy, or antagonize. So when a waitress is required to get certain information from a customer, we are doing our job folks... and we may be going beyond that to make you feel special or comfortable. With the holiday season coming up, keep this in mind when you are out dealing with retail workers, restaurant workers etc... They may have had to stay up all night to get ready for the door stampedes... the grouchy people that cant simple give a name for their order.. Treat them with respect... and if you cannot do that, stay home, relax with your families, and be thankful for what you have... Just my 2 cents, which will not be spent at any of the retail stores but will be dropped into my change jar while I take some time out to watch a movie with my family. :)
