So, came back from camping to find an invitation to sign this Apology to Putin thing, in which , We, the people of the West, apologize to Putin for NATOs intervention in the Ukraine and the embargoes. All I can say is did whoever send this to me take a stupid pill? I remember the Cold War good and well, and what Putin has in mind to do is rebuild the Soviet Bloc and revive the USSRs glory days. Putin wants the Ukraine because (if I recall) about 1/3 of the USSRs ICBMs were there. I spent a third of my life in Alaska, and our two closest neighbors were Canada and the Siberian side of Russia. There are a lot of Russians to this day in Alaska because Alaska used to be a Russian territory til it was sold to the USA during the Napoleonic Wars. On top of the Russian settlers I knew (who are very insular and still speak Russian and are Russian in culture), I had many Russian national friends in college. None of those folks wanted the USSR back. Those from Russia remembered all too well the KGB, the vanishings, the bread lines, the empty grocers, the endless wars and body bags. Mostly, none of them wanted another Cold War with the world teetering on the edge of nuclear Armageddon again. I am no fan of this vicious, materialistic thing that contemporary capitalistic republics have become, but Putins vision is apocalyptic regress. DO NOT send me that trash. Like hell am I going to sign an apology to Putin. To the people of Ukraine, I apologize (as if it were my responsibility) that there is a despotic, narcissistic ass to your north with delusions of grandeur and Napoleonic visions of conquest, and to the people or Russia, I apologize that your jack ass, shirtless president is bringing your boys home in body bags for no better cause than his trumped up ego.
