So daughter Zoe returned home with weekend from her first term at Oxford University, to a rather different family than she had left. Our beloved old collie Jake had an invasive form of cancer, and we put him to sleep.I had a surprise malignant tumour, surgery, and am awaiting the biopsy from that. Zoe had an intense term, with 1 on 1, or 2 on 1 tutorials on her three subjects weekly. But shes not done with this terms work. Before next term starts, shell be tested on this terms work (Koine Greek, Old Testament, Doctrine of Creation). In addition, she has all the background reading to do for next terms papers, so that during term, ideally, shell mainly think and write her weekly essays and do very specific reading. Fortunately, her Christmas break is six weeks long. Higher education is so specialised that I tend to think its a waste of time and money unless you are truly passionate about your subject. Better to take a year out and discover your passion than spend years and thousands of pounds absorbing information which is not going to intersect with your future life. Zoe feels called to Christian ministry, so hopefully all this Biblical knowledge will eventually be put to good use!
