So did you all place bets on whether or not Id actually make the raven mask I mentioned last week? Well, prepare to get paid (or pay up, as the case may be), because I totally made a raven mask -- but from paper, not from felt! First, I bought a fabulous folded-paper mask pattern from Steve Wintercroft on Etsy (https://etsy/shop/Wintercroft) and put it together using 80lb cardstock (photo 1). Then I layered on papier-mâché to secure all the joints and make it sturdier (photo 2). This took some careful drying with a heat gun because I didnt start until noon and the party I was going to was at 7pm. Once dry (and cool), I painted it with acrylic craft paint (photo 3). Mostly black, of course, but I did use some gunmetal grey metallic for highlights around the beak and eyes. Finally, I took black teardrop-shaped paper cutouts, bent them slightly at the points, and glued them to the beak and brow to echo a ravens beardy feathers around the beak (photo4). Oh, and I went over the edges of them with some more craft paint to blend them in a little better. Other than wishing that I had had time to either sew in or put in a small grommet for the elastic, Im pretty pleased with how it turned out! And yes, Ive also got cat ears on in photo 1 -- thats my standard officewear on Halloween. Also, arent my top-of-the-washing-machine photos absolutely smexy? Aw yeah, crafting and clean laundry! .:Z
