So, every year my sister, daughter and I have the same conversation. Every year, my sister wants to watch the documentaries about September 11th, partially because thats most of whats on in the evening. Or has been for the last several years. My sister is too young to remember September 11 2001. She doesnt understand why watching these documentaries or talking about it, or seeing the picture that they call the Falling Man all over Facebook makes me cry. Its something thats incredibly hard to explain to somebody who doesnt remember where they were, what they were doing, who was with them. She doesnt have the memory of sitting in a classroom and watching a plane hit the second tower, she doesnt have the memory of sitting there with all of your friends crying when the towers fell. She doesnt have the memory of hearing the dead silence after the towers fell and all of a sudden all you can hear is PASS devices going off everywhere.. I have those memories and every year it just kills me. But, every year we have the same conversation and we talk about what happened, we talk about the firefighters, police officers, medics, normal ordinary civilians who helped other people get out, who died trying to help other people, and who died trying to get themselves out. We talk about why we went to war and the brave men and women of our military who sacrificed so much, even if theyre lucky enough to come home in one piece to their families, to preserve our freedom, and our way of life. As part of the one of the generations who remembers, its my job to make sure that they dont forget. I raised my daughter with a healthy respect for the military, and for first responders, and I have no doubt in my mind that she will continue to have that respect for people and for those who lay down their lives for others. We will never forget those who died on 9/11 2001, and their sacrifices will always be honored and respected.I
