So exciting today to see 24 students plus youth leaders and camp counselors heading off to Sugar Pine Camp. Lets all keep them in prayer. Sermon Recap: There are a lot of things in life that can make us feel so close and yet so far. You were one click away from winning that raffle; your fist name was called in the grand prize drawing but not your last. You were, so close, and yet so far from winning. These are disappointing moments left to chance. But the most important thing in life isnt something left to chance. Its about choice. Religion is a choice but if it alone is #1 in your life, youll stay so close and yet so far from real life change. Nicodemus was a religious man. He chose to be a Pharisee. His religion took him so close to Jesus but until he became born again, he was still so far. Jesus blew his analytical mind up by telling ol Nick at Night that he must be born again. This idea blasted apart all the salvation-by-keeping all-the-rules-thinking he had been taught. But Jesus knew that religion shouldnt be 1st place. Its second. When religion is 1st, it creates problems at the expense of potential. When religion is first, mercy gets displaced. So, Jesus came to put religion in its place. Ultimately He did this by taking our place, on the cross. For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son the whosoever would believe in Him would not perish but have eternal life. Have you put religion in its place? Doing so means to stop thinking that your good deeds will get you into heaven. Declare your desire to be utterly dependent on Him today. Admit to Him youve sinned. Believe that He is Gods son who died on the cross for you. Choose to follow him and place Him behind the steering wheel of your life. If you will youll win something much better than a free raffle! By His grace, youll receive salvation, forgiveness, eternal life and a new life with a new identity that will take you from being so close and yet so far to once being so far and yet now so close… to Jesus! Choose Jesus today!
