So facebook....moral post. Ive been asked by a media outlet to make a comment on a DJ who went to a photographer and had some photos done in their undies....because they also model. Theyre very pretty, and as far as I can gather the modelling started before the DJing. The questions were: Do you think that a DJ should have photos made in lingerie to promote herself? Do you think a hot DJ should cover up and concentrate more on the music? Do you think hot DJs get more gigs because they are in their undies? Do you think DJs who use their bodies to get ahead are frauds? Do you think hot DJs should stick to DJing or modelling but not both? .....and so on...... My reply, after much angst, was She can do whatever she likes. If I want her as a model, I will hire her as a model. If I want her as a DJ, I will hire her as one. Its been an hour.....no reply. Guess Im not controversial enough. I thought about doing a table turn thing.....by saying nobody gives me crap because I am a photographer and also volunteer for the State Emergency Service. I have used my photography to benefit the SES, and I have used the SES to benefit my photography. Both these things are very different, as is modelling and DJing. Then I thought, anyone could be a photographer and SES volunteer. It doesnt take a smoking hot body...so its not that big a deal. But upon further reflection....not anyone could do it. Not anyone has the desire to go and cut up a tree thats fallen on a house at 3AM for a total stranger, as well as run a photography business and be all creative and create art people want to buy. So I am as different, but the same, as a smoking hot DJ. The difference is, because I am male, old, fat, and ugly - nobody gives a shit. To make this argument in a media environment where 10 seconds is the attention span is rather pointless - but I feel it needs to be made. So I make it here. I welcome your thoughts....if youve read this far.
