So far, I put up 2 bulletin boards outside of my classroom. One is for character counts/anti bullying and the other showcases small posters of the books that are the most checked out from my room. We dont have a library. However, reading is very important and FUNdamental. I really enjoy getting to see and interact with the kids. I cant stand it if a kids not reading a book. So during my lunch period/prep, I allow all the students to come in and check out books from my own personal library. While I only have 20 students myself, I allow everyone to check out. The kids have demonstrated being responsible, caring, trustworthy, respectful, fair and good citizenship with my books and come in daily to check in/out books. They are so excited to come in and get books. I even made up passes for the other teachers to send their students. Some students feel they should have their own VIP pass. LOL :) I even have kids who want to come and work for me. They are my new little librarians/helpers in training. They work for school supplies too. Works for me. I feel it is beneficial for all involved. popular on the payroll are post it notes. I told them they could use them for interactive notebooks. I even have a little race going between the classrooms. So far Tania Lopez Hendrickson 5th grade class is in 1st. In 2nd place, Zehra Fatima 4th grade class, and in 3rd Mindy Michelle Gionet 3rd grade class. Its all good. :)
