So first Oprah and now Russell Simons (whom I was a very big fan of till I saw him calling people slave and trader on twitter) are all up in the news screaming about racism in America. So my question is how this attitude can exist from two people born into poverty and now have more money than they can ever spend find that race has anything to do with success in America? I guess they want us to believe that they as opposed to others became successful not because they worked hard and didn’t take no for an answer but by their fairy godmother who waved a magic wand and poof all the white folks got out of their way. It is getting to be way too much. Oprah is the most influential media personality in the country. She was raised by a single mother, in a poor neighborhood. She is now living the ultimate American dream; she is a household name and is recognized by her first name alone. If she stopped making money tomorrow she will still never run out. How can they not believe in the empowerment of their own people? How can Simmons also a self-made multi-millionaire not believe in teaching his own community that hard work pays off? That with self-respect and hard work all things are possible? That Don Lemon’s non talking points that said 1. pull up pants (sagging is from prison) 2.drop the N-word 3.take care of their communities 4.finish school 5.lower rate of children born out of wedlock (More than 72% of children in the African American community are born out of wedlock,) How are Earth are these not good ideas? Race has nothing to do with these ideas they are good advice for everyone! People approach situations from their own personal frame of mind; they believe other think exactly like they do. The annotations coming for the black community say a lot about how they feel about others. I am not saying that racism does not exist I have seen more than one child called white for being smart or speaking proper English. It is time for personal liberation and stop making excuses. It is time to take personal responsibilities seriously for yourself and your own future. It is time to stop wasting time on validating lack of success and criminal behavior as a race issue and time to promote and praise those who do succeed. We’re to a point where those who do work very hard, put in the long hours, muster up the courage and resolve to fight and scratch their way to the top of their field are ignored or dismissed. This is America the land of opportunity not the land of guarantees. It is time to stop demeaning those who worked hard and became the best at what they do by justifying those who do not. Just off the top of my head a small list of other blacks who achievements should be praised not put aside as anomalistic in nature.
