So, first time ever... I just sent a letter to my districts House Representative W. Gregory Greg Stuebe. Never have EVER in my life sent a letter to an elected official... well... okay... not true, in 8th grade I wrote Reagan and I got a letter (signed by his Chief of Staff) back... no lie... any way... I voiced my concern over this standardized testing nonsense. I didnt have a plan for him and I didnt say do this or that. I told him -- from one parent to another -- can you legitimately say you are okay with a test that can punish your child academically and punish the school and teacher for 180 days of other instruction? FCAT is one thing -- but using EOCs in EVERY class including Art and Band and Technology and having it count for 30% of the childs grade is abuse -- plain and simple. My child and her teachers work their asses off all year long and one test could fail her, her teachers and her school. How can we continue and let the State do this with our schools and children? I dont expect a response, but if you dont speak out, ask questions, understand what the corporate greed behind siphoning off OUR tax dollars to make these tests all in the name of quality is ludicrous. Our teachers need WAY more pay, need FAR more resources to teach. Set up a system where teachers are graded by their principal and peers and parents! You know... like ALL of us working in our jobs? Teachers are accountable all year long and one test can punish them for good work they do all year and only because your child is a bad test taker. This Madness has to stop...
