So following on in the Beach Body Ready Series, here is step 2. Get rid of your fad diet! If your diet has a name, such as: Paleo, Atkins, Dukan or Cambridge, then it’s a fad. These fads all have something in common; they are a calorie controlled diet! Paleo encourages clean eating, consuming unrefined grains, and is effectively a non processed food diet. The science that its built upon just isnt there. Ive read the book. Its a great sales pitch thats for sure. Its a calorie controlled diet in essence. However it does state that you can eat as much as you want from certain food groups and you wont get fat. Well I can tell you from personal experience, and of course Scientific fact, that you will if you go over your calories. Dukan, Ive not read, but its a calorie controlled diet in essence, but it restricts protein on certain days?! What the eff is that about. Protein should be THE one single constant with your diet, (well including fibre, but I set a range for that). Atkins - low carb = calorie restriction. Cambridge - Severe calorie restriction from shakes. (This is pure insanity, eat your damned food). See the correlation with all these famous diets?! They are calorie controlled diets. Dont fall in to thinking they are special and the answer to your prayers, they are not. We set our clients calories if they require a calorie based diet, some do, some dont. Calorie restriction, by a reasonable amount is implemented and see what happens to a number of different markers, not just weight, to see how the individual responds. Falling in to the trap of a fad diet is just going to make you believe that its special, and its not. Creating a calorie deficit from either exercise or nutrition, or both, is the way.
