So, for the first time since being diagnosed with cancer the Walgreens pharmacy where I get my prescriptions filled told me that they needed to call the doctor that issued my scripts (low dose morphine for pain and Xanax for uninterrupted sleep at night) speak to him about my medical conditions, his diagnosis and then make an additional decision, potentially superseding the prescriptions he wrote and denying me my medications. It turns out that everything was fine and my scripts got filled (though I did offer to lift my shirt and show the pharmacist on duty my 14 inch surgical scar, which is still healing and my colostomy bag) however, all of this doesnt seem kosher to me. How can a pharmacy have any right to potentially make a decision about my personal health? Sure sure, I get that they need to prevent people who had a root canal from refilling a 6 month old prescription on OxyContin for recreational use...but these were handwritten scripts dated TODAY. Also, they should have been able to see via my previously filled scripts there that Im taking blood thinners that prevent me from taking any standard OTC painkillers. Narcotics are my ONLY option for any type of pain at the moment. It just all smacks of some of my personal rights being violated...Im just not sure which ones. Anybody in medicine/pharmacy management that has any idea what was going on here? How badly was I being jerked around?
