So, friends, followers and denizens of the Land of Noiram, your humble scribe has been following what once was a lively debate over the condition of the finances and management of what once was to have been a refuge for lost or abandoned four-legged friends here in Noiram, but now appears to have spiraled downward into an over-crowded, staging area holding dogs in kennels and crates until they fight their way (literally, in some cases) to the Rainbow Bridge. A few valiant knights of the realm have tried to raise pertinent questions about the management of this contract service provider, but they have suffered the fate of many of those who trod the same path before them - the Hellhounds of social media have been unleased upon them, allowing them to be attacked, belittled, their reputations tarnished and, in the ultimate smear of social media, they have been unfriended and removed from the group, thus once more effectively shutting off any dissent. So, using the veil of anonymity afforded yours truly of the nom de guerre as a shield against the fangs, claws and talons waiting behind cage doors for the call to action from The Goddess Supreme, shall we see what springs forth in response to the following: Several weeks ago a series of 36 questions were posted, not for the first time, to the closed facebook group - a group established ironically enough for the purpose of open and transparent communications (If it is open and transparent, why is it a closed group and those who ask pointed questions deleted from the group or their application never approved? I quess you must be a Kool-Aid Drinker to get in). Since only a very few of those questions were ever answered by The Goddess Supreme, perhaps if your scribe takes to heart the task of answering the questions based upon observations made, the open and transparent management will step up and correct any misunderstandings. So, here are the first few questions and your scribes responses based on matters observed: 1. What is the average weekly budget for the shelter which would include vetting, any supplies that are needed, insurance and payroll? There is no budget, we spend money on a day-to-day basis as fast as we can get our hands on it. A recent post claimed $450K in receipts in 2013 and equated that to a “budget” of $8.6K per week. Unfortunately, that is not a ‘Budget,” that is your average weekly expenditure during 2013. A Budget is a plan for the future, not a snapshot of the past. 2. With respect to the Board of Directors: a. Who is on the Board? This is one question that was actually answered on the Group Page, however, there are some names on the list posted that were not on the list submitted to the Ruling Council of Noiram in May, 2014, supporting a renewal of the contract for services. b. When do they meet? This question was avoided on the Group Page, until one valiant knight went direct to a member of the Board and asked – the response: I have only been to one meeting and that was the organizational meeting in April. I am not aware of any other meetings (which raises another interesting question: if there have not been any other meetings of the Board, how were the persons added to the Board whose names were not on the list submitted to the Ruling Council of Noiram?) c. Where are the minutes? According to the list of members posted earlier, the Board has a Secretary. It is the duty of the Secretary to maintain the minutes of meetings and is the keeper of all documentation pertaining to the Board. Contact the Secretary and ask. Well, friends, followers and denizens of the Realm, it is time for your humble servant to send forth this missive into the darkness of the internet and measure how long it will be before The Goddess Supreme orders the Hellhounds released and all effort directed towards shutting down yet one more voice of dissent. Until next time, The Scarlet Pimpernel - 29571
