So, frustrated! My straight A 4th grade student, Elijah, changed schools from Elberta to Gulf Shores 2 months ago & brought home a report card of Cs & Bs. I was extremely concerned that his grades had plummeted! So, I met with his teachers to try to get him back on track. I asked why his grades suddenly plummeted. They said, We dont give participation grades like his last school. What?? Then, they showed me his transcripts: All 100s for daily participation averaged with mostly C weekly test scores. Grade inflation!!! So, I sat down Elijah to help him catch up on his 4th grade math of adding & multiplying fractions, decimals & fractions of geometric shapes. Only to discover, my son doesnt have basic math skills! He doesnt know how to add, subtract, multiply, or divide in his head. He doesnt know his multiples (2,4,6 ... 5,10,15 ...) & hes in 4th grade!!! He is still counting n his fingers! So, the inflated participation grades prevented my son from getting the help he needed in math. Now, Im having to sit here with him & teach him the basics, so that he comprehend the advanced skill of fractions. Grrrrr!!! AND, its tax time!!! & Ive got plenty of my own work to do. Double Grrrrrr!!!
