So frustrating and disappointing to see the council can not get to grips with our litter problem, it would be great if they could delegate just 1 person whos job it was to solely focus on getting the rubbish off the beaches. Better and bigger bins are need, they have been for years at this time of the year. I think many beaches need better rubbish collection points with a bin available for recycling and something to deal with the BBQS that are left behind, maybe a small metal bin. signage is very important, some signs to explain about the effects the litter has on the marine wildlife and maybe to mention the efforts volunteers are making to try and keep the beaches cleaner. There seems to be so much litter left by holiday makers at the moment, I dont understand....they come here because the like our beaches but then they are willing to spoil them by leaving litter. They even seem happy to leave litter daily and re rising the same litter covered spot and leave more litter. Some times they even bag it but then hang it in a tree!!!!! what do they think will happen the litter fairys will come at night and take it away??? the council seem clueless at getting their heads around the litter problem and how to solve it, all they do is chuck a load of money at contractors to deal with a small area and they keep their fingers crossed, For god sake employ someone or appoint someone to focus on the litter on our beaches, even if they spent £5,000/ £10,000 on new bins and signage it would be well worth it, every day the island reputation is being damaged!
