So grateful to be given rides, then pushed in a wheelchair so I could attend the day of the dead in the MIssion ! Gratitude XXX, + many surprises, running into people I had not seen for years. The atmosphere was a bit odd for me. I could adapt to the rock and blues music on the sound truck, the rumble of Loco Bloco, but the many white folks seeking attention on who had the most decadent dress or best horns on their heads (hello ? it is dia de los muertos, not halloween, morons !), or most perfect frida Khalo face flossed with my nerves. The tradition, the mexican brass was not at the rendez-vous. But David Grace kept me company for a while. and got sight of Erick Arguello, Roberto Hernandez, Quintin Meque, and of course David Campos. Fortunately I was in the company of Adriana Camarena, Danielle, Debra Gallegos, the Iriondo Sisters, and Elvira & Refugio NIeto !! Adrianas exhibit at Mission Cultural Center is quite amazing, from the walls covered with intentions, poems, names, drawings, I could hear a thousand minds protesting police brutality and honoring our dead. and thank you Yvonne for the projection of my interview !
