So guess what guys? Ive moved out of home! Yep, you read that right. I no longer live at home, but in a shared bungalow in Cardiff that is run by scope. I have two permanent housemates, both of whom are pretty awesome, and who just happen to both be males, aged 19 and 21 :) Weve already pulled some brilliant pranks on the staff >< Ive been living in my new place for just over a week, and Im pretty settled in- everyone has informed me that you can definitely tell which bedroom (which is massive) and en suite (which is pretty big, too) is mine! Ive still got a few details to sort, but Im having fun acting as the Official house interior designer, much to the trepidation of the lads! Im incredibly thankful for both the emotional and activity based support from my incredible family and friends- for seeing me in person, for packing up and transporting (in Jacob Claphams words) all my crap, for sending cards and messages and texts and pyjamas. Im also thankful for the amazing staff on my continuing healthcare team whove made me the strong, independent young woman I am today, and thankful to my current nursing and social Care staff, who allow me to be independent (I do all my own washing, cleaning, tidying, most of my cooking, food shopping, and various other grown up stuff myself) whilst feeling and being totally safe and secure. My parents have done too much, and mean too much, to put my feelings into words. Mostly Im so, so thankful that they became my Mum and Dad, and for them making me the strong, independent, determined (aka stubborn!), happy, capable young woman I am, through example and encouragement. They gave me deep roots and wide wings, and they taught me the most important lesson of all- love is the most important, powerful, magical thing in the world. Youre probably wondering why the whole moving out thing hasnt been mention before, right? Thats because it wasnt planned... All in the same week, Mammy became very poorly and needed a Hospital stay, I started needing oxygen four days out of seven, for two out of every ten spasms, the pre-drawn syringes of my buccal became unavailable, meaning were back to old fashioned drawing up, my college tutors tried to kick me off my counseling course because of my ill health, and, basically, my care at home just wasnt working anymore. It wasnt the staff themselves, because theyre all pretty awesome, but the rules and regs that they had to follow. What I need is twenty four hour nursing care- at LMC I get that, and I can still go buy a unit in Ikea, go shopping in Cardiff, go swimming, dye me hair, get drunk, and I get to have a dominoes night with my friends in my own living room. Although this has had to happen a lot sooner than I and my nearest and dearest planned, and although I miss my parents, Lenny Henry the poodle, being so close to friends and quite a few other things, it has been the right thing, and the best thing, we could do. LMC are totally cool about visitors, so Id love to see you all :) Just ring before you visit! With love, hope and happiness, Amy-claire
