So, guys... we need to talk. Its about Bobby. :-( He was doing pretty well there for a while... moving around, eating great, bright eyed. But he started slowing down last week and then this past weekend, he really crashed. He is back to not wanting to move, laying around all the time (he does lay on your bed non-stop, Christine)... he is in a lot of pain. Ive spoken at length with the vets and the sad fact is, there is not more we can do for him to control his pain. The spinal arthritis is just too severe. Weve rechecked the xrays, gotten other opinions on the xrays. (One vet looked at them and said incredulously, this dog is still alive??). The steroids and pain meds have run their course and are loosing their effectiveness. I even consulted a vet who does acupuncture but after seeing the xrays, she said she didnt hold out much hope. And so I think the answer is plain. I wanted to tell you all up front, tho, because Bobby has made such an impression on so many. I sat with him this evening and while he wagged at me, it was half-hearted, and his eyes are exhausted. I know hes done. I so, so wish that he had come to us sooner. I wanted to fix this dog. I wanted to see him running in the fields, and lying on the sofa. It just isnt going to happen in this case. Im so sorry. I will hold him tomorrow while he finally slips out of pain. I wish with all my heart it could be different.
