So here goes my tired cranky rant for today....... I just arrived home at 750am after doing a exhausting 10 hour night shift on a Cardiology ward. I had to catch a taxi, because I local bus company only provides the hospital with a once an hour service between the hours of 830am to 830pm (which is such a convenient time for nurses cause they all work between those hours lol not) any who, I got out of the taxi which stopped across the st from my house, (2 lane st) I looked up the st and saw that lycra riders were heading down the hill towards me on my left. the lycra riders were about 100 m away , and I was half way across the first lane towards my house. which if a car was coming doing the speed limit of 60k/hr, I would have plenty of time to make my crossing. but by the time I got half way across the other lane. this obnoxious women lycra rider, starts screaming at me HEY HEY HEY HEY LOOK WHERE YOUR CROSSING, I was stunned to see that she was just about on top of me. The women was flying so fast down that hill that she covered the distance of 100m quicker then what a car would, she was definitely going faster than 60k/hr and had the audacity to yell at me for crossing my own st. It annoys me to no end the way the lycra riders fly down Edmund St Moffat Beach, 3,4,5 abreast and doing speeds well over the speed limit. its called following the road rules, maybe Ihave a chat with my local police and get them to set up a speed camera at 730am tomorrow, they will catch about 25 riders all speeding and riding to many abreast............... Interesting Facts - I believe my lycra rider broke rule 1 and 3 Being A traffic hazard 1.You must avoid being a traffic hazard at all times—do not ride into the path of a driver or pedestrian 2.When you ride, you must: • keep as close to the left as practicable on a road that is not a multi-lane road •on a multi-lane road, you can take up any position within the lane • ride to the left of any oncoming vehicle • not overtake another vehicle on the left if that vehicle is turning left and indicating they will turn left • not overtake another vehicle on the left if it is not safe to do so • not ride with more than 2 riders side by side unless you are overtaking • ride within 1.5m of the other rider if you are travelling side by side with someone. A cyclist may ride on the hard shoulder to the left of an edge line. 3.Penalties common to cyclists and motorists Cyclists who break the road rules will be given the same fines as motorists. Offences common to both cyclists and motorists include: •failing to stop at a red traffic light •disobeying a ‘no U-turn’ sign at an intersection •failing to stop at a ‘stop’ sign at an intersection •exceeding the speed limit in a speed zone by less than 13km/h. If you commit an offence as a cyclist, you will receive a fine for the same amount as a motorist would, but you will not accumulate demerit points.
