So here is my bedtime story to all my friends lol......... So here I sit in Flagstaff lol The sun came out just enough to melt some snow and get the roads wet. I was already worried about black ice when I turned on my windshield washer and it froze instantly, it just confirmed it. I know they salt the roads, but I gave my guardian angel quite the workout yesterday morning so thought I should give her a brake and not push my luck. I forced myself to pull off in Flagstaff and get a room.As I checked in I found out the freeway was still closed down from the storm I went through yesterday. They apparently closed it down about 10 minutes after I went through, and they were well justified to do so, it was horrible!! When I left Kingman it had just started snowing and I thought I was going to beat it. It only got worse and worse, blowing snow, blizzard conditions, no visibility. There was so much snow on the ground you couldnt see the lines so I tried to follow the trucks that were on the road. It worked ok until one by one they pulled over to the shoulder and gave up. I am in a rental toyota yaris- or the bumble bee as I call it. I was afraid if I pulled over one of three things would happen- 1- I would get stuck in the snow, freezing cold with two little puppies. 2- I would get hit by someone out of control or 3- buried by a random snow plow. So I knew the safest thing was to keep moving forward to the next exit-----well there arent many here I found out. The next one was in Seligman and I was praying I could make it there. Unfortunately by the time I got there, it was so snowed over I couldnt see where the exit was and again I was afraid the Bumble bee would get stuck because the plows had not gone through at all. So I kept trucking and praying, literally, as I drove 30 miles an hour on I 40 with no one around. I finally met up with a snow plow and followed him thinking for sure I was safe. I completely ignored that stay back 50 feet sign on the back lol. Then he takes the turn around to do the other side of the freeway!!! I could have cried, but onward and upward alone again. my travel companions happily snoozing in the back, lot of help they were lol. Once we hit Winona the clouds broke and we actually had clear skies the rest of the way. Today my Guardian angel was back on duty- I skirted every storm on the way back, it was like someone laid the roads for me so I missed all but a couple flurries on the way. That is when I decided not to push my luck when the temp starting to drop- Rest now angel, we still have 6 ours to go in the morning when they open the freeway. I guess this means I get to eat breakfast in the morning, I skipped it today so I could get on the road. I feel so lazy stopping so early!!! I wanted to get at least a couple more hundred miles on the tires before I put him to bed, but safety trumps all, I guess now I can update my website lmao.
