So, here is my road-racing dilemma (non-car-people should probably scroll down to a dancing cat video or something): ________________________________________ What to do for the 2015 season? I dont really want to take any power *out* of my car, so TTD or below is a non-starter. (Id actually have to go all the way down to TTE before there would be anyone to play with - I think some of the TTD guys are coming up to TTC next year, which is another reason to stay in C.) However, the faster class above me doesnt really have any competitors. I would have to go up to TT3 before it would really be interesting. A TT3 Miata is a no-go as well, I think. Im not sure that 25 more horses, 75 pounds of lightness and a half an inch of tire all-the-way-around is really going to equate to 3 to 9 more seconds on the courses that we run. (And I am being generous - I doubt that Greg will be that willing to make a Miata that competitive. Seemingly, in his mind, a competitive Miata is handicapped 20%.) So, I am kinda stuck in TTC with 5 points to use. I could run 245 R6 Hoosiers and have two points left, but I would have to flare the car and get wider wheels or spacers. But, if Im going to do that, why dont I just go all the way up to 275 NT-01s? Or would that actually be a step backwards? I would have to go up to a 17x9 inch wheel (heavy and expensive) and the tread width would only be about a half inch more than a 225 Hoosier. That would give me better tire longevity so that I could do race group as well. But would I still be able to have the kind of grip needed to turn real TTC times? I suspect not. R80s are only a consideration if I suddenly become a rich guy because there is no way to win them fast enough. (And I would have to drop the car to TT-D power/weight to have enough points for them - They might be good, but I doubt they are 30 horsepower AND 1 of rubber good.) Im not going to have a whole lot of budget laying around after I repaint the car, put on a legal roof and install the cage over the winter break. Ugh. All ideas and suggestions are welcome.
