So here is the deal with what we call unconditional love. It does NOT mean you let people use you as a human doormat! That is not truly loving for either party. Unconditional love means that you invite people to rise to their highest selves, accepting where they are in the journey, but holding them to a high standard of accountability and integrity nonetheless. Under no circumstances does love mean letting someone else hurt you, especially intentionally. Love also does not include enabling or excusing harmful behavior! If you love someone, and they dont yet quite know how to love you back in return, you may have the honor of teaching them, and bringing forth their capacity to love (which is really, at its core, helping them remember who they are). And if they dont yet want to learn...then sometimes the most loving thing is to let them go, holding a space of love and compassion for them until they are ready, but not acquiescing your own light.
