GUILT FREE PLEASURE Background His company is known as ifood evolution and his brand is “Taste by Martyn Brook.” Why so called? Because taste ‘pure and natural’ is widely recognised as the key to a successful and healthy mind and body. FREE of preservatives and additives – ’Taste by Martyn Brook’ is a range of guilt free, dehydrated natural products that not only taste fantastic but, as his customers say - also make you feel fantastic too! His Story MY JOURNEY on the road to Good Taste - by Martyn Brook ‘I was born on December 18, 1965 in Bedworth, North Warwickshire – UK. Being brought up in a working class environment in the 60´s and 70´s, when the “good things” in life were plentiful and when food was real and tasted as it should without un-natural flavourings and preservatives, I was fortunate enough to grow up on an abundance of home grown Organic Vegetables and organically reared meat sources. Even though we lived as a family of five in a typical small terraced house in the heart of industrial England, I remember very well our long garden which was divided up to help provide great home grown and home reared healthy food that would support our family for many months every year. I loved that garden. Expertly tended by my Dad and with our willing help, it was divided into five areas. Fruit Trees, Rabbits (sometimes we had fifty or sixty at any time), Pigeons - which back in that era were used for both racing and food - Chickens and a small grassed area where we could enjoy the occasional hot summer’s day. We also had an elderly neighbour who was very happy for my dad to turn her entire garden into a long and well organized vegetable plot in return for some of the fresh home grown delicious vegetables and the occasional Chicken from our plot, so we were lucky - we had two gardens! And I can promise you this - nothing tastes as good as a real home grown Organic free roaming Chicken or vegetables picked directly from your garden. Pure and natural! It was in those early days of my life that I developed a palate that helped and inspired me to create some amazing food over the many years I have worked in the food and restaurant industry, and at just 13 years old, my first ever job gave me my first real taste of a busy kitchen providing me with the initial organisational and hard work ethic skills for later in my life. At just thirteen I began working at our local Fish and Chip shop “Billy Days,” and was soon recognised by the owner Billy Day and his son Tony as very capable, and it wasn’t long before I was trusted with cooking the Fish and Chips from start to finish with a timing and finesse that will stay with me until the day I die! My career as a Chef began in Australia in 1985 where he I worked at the world famous Ayres Rock Tourism icon and gained valuable experience in food preparation and presentation with International flair. Inspired by the way in which the Australian kitchen had taken the best of everything from the best dining countries in Europe and expertly combined them with the wonderful aromatics and spices from its Asian neighbours, I turned my attention to Asia where I gained experience in Malaysian, Indonesian and with Thai cuisine, thus allowing me the experience that has led to some of my finest dishes. Returning to England, I set up a successful catering company which I ran until a change of direction allowed me to set up and operate a very successful beer and wine importing company in Sweden and later Denmark, which gave birth to the substantial sales of some of the UK’s, Germany’s and the Czech Republic’s finest brands. During the latter years with this company, I opened my first restaurant in Copenhagen specialising in many beers and wines from all over the world and, of course, Good Wholesome Food! Opportunities then led me back to Thailand where in 2004 I became the Executive Head Chef for the Spa on Koh Samui, creating vegan and vegetarian dishes for many eager and satisfied guests. It was during this time that I was first introduced to ‘Raw’ Food and it’s many real health benefits. On my return to Scandinavia, with my new outlook on food and with a far better understanding of my own body and the food I needed to eat to keep me healthy and feeling great, I opened my second restaurant in Sweden known as Chilli. Specialising in Asian / Fusion food with a lot of “Raw” influence,” Chilli fast became known as a place of high integrity and quality and was accredited in the Swedish Krak Guide (Sweden´s equivalent to the Michelin guide in the UK & Europe). Family circumstances meant a move back to Denmark where my search for good quality, tasty and more-ish Raw and healthy snacks began. Lack of availability of such products gave me the idea of using the skills and experiences of many years in the food industry to create my own products and brands - and so was born the ‘Kookie’ and the ‘Kracker’ ranges which, together with our amazingly popular ’Kranola’ cereals, leads us to where we are today – satisfying demand from countries right accross Europe. And now..... And now Martyn is returning to his home country and will begin a UK launch of his sustainable products linking up with his old friends and business colleague Steve Wegerif and together, through Steves company Let Nature Provide, the products will be shortly be available through the natural products online store letnatureprovide.co.uk If you are interested in stocking the products, e-mail [email protected] for further details The UK PRODUCT LAUNCH will take place at this year’s OM festival at Olympia in London from October 24th though to October 26th.
