So here it is, my final day at Edge Hill University. It has been a brilliant six years, and I would very much like to thank all those people who voted for me over the last two years as without you, I wouldn’t have been able to stay. I thought I was only coming over here for a three year degree, but it turned into a six year journey, with many ups and downs, but it’s been incredible. I am so proud to have been part of a Edge Hill Students Union, leading, representing, changing, and achieving for students. I’m proud of the work I’ve done creating the first ever Rate Your Landlord project at Edge Hill, introducing the first ever Liberations Committee to effectively represent all our students, overhauling our Course Rep system, developing the Universitys first Graduate Employability Strategy, creating numerous new clubs and societies, being part of a Union that secured the ban of the s*n newspaper on campus, secured Gender Neutral Toilet and multi faith prayer facilities, that set up an Advice Centre for the first time, set up a Students’ Union Bar and Club Edge Hill SU Bars for the first time, and turning the organisation from a half million pound into a million pound company. I’ve helped hundreds of students along the way and am delighted to see them all enjoy their time here as a result. Thanks to all my fellow Executive Officers, SU Staff (especially receptionists!), student reps and activists, University staff and National Union of Students and local SU people for all the support during my six years in the student movement. Special thanks to the two best Vice Presidents ever and my best mates (housemates past and future!) Alexandra May Illingworth and Kayley Wilson, we’ve achieved so much. Having spent six years as part of the SU through Council, Societies Officer, Sports Officer, Faculty Rep, NUS Delegate, Vice President Faculty of Arts and Sciences, President, and even Vice President Faculty of Health and Social Care, its been a ball! Best of luck to next year’s team, the Union is heading in the right direction and I look forward to seeing it continue that way. It’s been tough but enjoyable, to overcome the many attacks (virtual, verbal, even physical!) and still come out winning and on top on the other side is a proud thing for me and I’ve certainly set myself up to succeed outside of Edge Hill University and the student movement, so I leave proud, happy and content with the work I/we’ve done here. #EHTID!
