So heres a funny story. Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, Nevada, and California was all part of Mexico at one time. Mexico encouraged legal immigration. They had local offices where legal immigrants could register and settle land. When legal immigration didnt satisfy the U.S. government because Manifest Destiny, Mexico rescinded its policy and attempted to protect its borders. This made the U.S. government very angry. The U.S. Army then invaded Mexico and forced them to sell the area in question by force. Moral of the story -- If people dont like you taking their land, send in the troops to kill them. :o)
