So heres an exchange with a friend of a friend tonight about the government shutdown, in order of the conversation - it boggles my mind the arrogance and unsympathetic attitude of the comments (actually it distresses and terrifies me that people can be so uncaring): Oh, cry me a freakin river, Bill. Those two family members compensation is deferred, not vaporized. I dont seem to recall a Million Bureaucrat March to stand in solidarity with the tens of millions of working Americans whose jobs vanished, who lost livelihoods and homes and life savings -- while the bureaucracy bloated and government jobs flourished. Mind you, I dont wish ill on any American, no matter their occupation, but for crissakes, show a little perspective here. Cry you a freakin river? Youre right, fortunately my family members will get through this bullshit relatively unharmed, but I doubt you would be so flippant about having your income unexpectedly delayed for two weeks, or who knows how much longer. Perspective? How about the most vulnerable of the members of our society, many of whom are children, who may go hungry because of this self-inflicted catastrophe? Cry me a river - I think so! Are you really that cruel to blindly stick to your political ideology, or are you that oblivious to the facts? Our mutual friend here knows that I speak from experience, not ideology. The children I had to account for were my own. Two weeks? Cry me a freakin river. There are real consequences to shutting down the government. Are you suggesting that the only people affected by the government shutdown are those who arent taking care of their own children. Really?
