So heres an observation. Most of us are familiar with the concept of the learning curve, the idea that we learn new subjects and skills quickly at first and then less quickly as we advance the knowledge and skills. I posit theres a corresponding forgetting curve -- one that rises slowly at first and then accelerates as we allow old skills to atrophy, old knowledge to go unused and unexamined, and (face it) as the years tick by on the odometer of life. That suggests a crossover point in everyones life, sooner for some and much later for others, after which we forget more in any given day, month, or year than we learn. The personal equivalent of Solar Max. I propose we all work at learning and exercising our minds regularly to forestall that day as long as possible.
