So heres the long and short with some snarling outrage to follow up.~ In the Miami-Dade area, there are lanes you can pay to access that, by virtue of exclusivity, move much faster than the standard free lanes. By paying anywhere from 4-15 dollars (it changes periodically at the toll station), you can cut your commute time by escaping the riff-raff of regular traffic. Locals and left wing radio personalities refer to them as lexus lanes playing on the popular sentiment of class based division, but honestly anyone who works a 9-5 could swing the average cost if they wanted the luxury, that doesnt bother me. What bothers me is that I-95 is regularly graded by federal and state regulators, who knew for a very long time that stretch of the highway running through miami was not large enough to accommodate regular traffic or the rate of projected population increase, decided that in order to meet the basic needs of the population they would impose a tax, and thats what it is, an additional tax in order for the people to use the new amenities that where required for transit to continue operating normally. If they didnt have these lanes, the blockage would cripple local commerce and devastate the livelihood of the whole city, thats why we make additions to highways and electrical grids, because city populations tend to RISE. Unfortunately, what people see is a luxury for the rich, but what I see is a tax being put on the people of the city because the local, state, and Federal government does not see fit to make THE NECESSARY ADJUSTMENTS IN OUR INFRASTRUCTURE unless FDOTs pet contractors stand to pocket a little something for themselves. Whatever. You looking at a piercing fetish tumblr page right now, I dont even know why I bother. #statepolitics #florida #YouLearnedSomething
