So how much erosion has Oak Island experienced this year? Picture of a house with the more than 135 ft of sand and dunes, in January of 2014. The same home, showing the stairs replaced in May being taken again, and showing the ocean undermining the $35,000 worth of sandbags they placed in an attempt to save the house in June 2014. This was just in 6 months, and weve continued to face very high lunar tides with pounding surf. Any doubt we have an emergency at the West end of Oak Island? Or that we should take advantage of the sand that will be dredged from the Eastern Channel to place as much of the beach quality sand as possible, while weve got the Permits/Engineers/Dredgers already staged out there and wont have to look for a sand borrow site for at least this part of our 50 Year Engineered Beach Project?
