So, how to write the review without giving any spoilers for those unlucky chums who havent seen it yet? All Ill say is that for all those that were worried about Marvel taking what is a relatively little known cosmic title (albeit, one of my all-time fave comics of the last 10 years - Annihilation and Annihilation:Conquest are MUST reads!) and making it as accessible (and fun!) as The Avengers and all the other A-list books, you can put your fears aside. Acting as a wonderful origin story (albeit leaning more towards the retcon version of the most recent books) which ties in nicely to all those little Easter eggs theyve been teasing through Phase 2 (Avengers 3 HAS to be based on the Infinity Gauntlet!), its a stunning non-stop action ride full of amazing visuals, humour (seriously, Chris Pratt is amazing and BIG kudos to WWEs Dave Bautista who nearly steals the show) and at times, pathos. I wont draw parallels to Star Wars because Star Wars is crap. Instead think Buck Rodgers with only slightly less spandex, a brilliant soundtrack and of course, my beloved Rocket and Groot, which has all the potential to easily slot in with the rest of the MCU. Also, no spoilers, but there are 3.5 surprise cameos (not including Stan the Man or the other dude) that literally had me air-punching. The one was expected but had me beaming (Bozhe moi!), the one post-credits Id inadvertantly caught spoilers for but was laughing my head off nonetheless, the half Im not sure about though it did look like my beloved golden guardian off in the background, and the one I wasnt expecting.... YES! One of my all-time faves, and its just added another $500 per book value on to my near-mint near complete collection from the 70s (thank YOU King Kirby). Whether you like superhero movies or not, youll love this or your money back. Marvel Studios prove once more why the rest have to try darned hard to catch up (eyeballing you Bonnie Tyler Batfleck!).
