So how warm does a hot tent get? Well, it really depends on many factors, such as outside temperatures, type of wood used, how airtight the tent is, size of stove, etc. I wont bother going into all the details, but it is obvious that the answer isnt quite so simple. But in general terms, if you have the stove stoked well with wood, you will most definitely feel the heat. Unlike the furnace at home, it is hard to maintain steady regulated heat from a wood stove, as it go in waves. You start with the initial burn, which increases to a peak burn/max heat output. It then declines from there, as you eventually reach a point at which you add wood again and go through the same cycle. There are ways to minimize the spikes, but there will always be waves, just with smaller peaks and valleys. Thats more ideal, but you have to monitor it more closely, which isnt always practical. But then again, who doesnt like being by the fire and feeling the dry heat on a cold damp day? As you already know, Anitas body and mine dont thermal regulate the same way. I am always guaranteed to be warmer than her, so quite often in the hot tent, I stayed away from the wood stove as much as possible. If not, I would have to retreat to the farthest point in the tent (or even outside) to cool off. Whereas, Anita loved to be close to the stove - obviously. (Yes, even in a hot tent, you have varying temperatures based on location.) Anita was a bit skeptical about whether she could really be hot in the hot tent. Well, her question was unequivocally answered - see pic. PS. When the woodstove was cranking out heat, we were peeling layers. It reminded me of that Kraft TV commercial where a couple college boys cranked up the thermostat in order to cook their Mac and Cheese on the rads, realizing that the girls in the dorm had removed most of their clothing due to the heat. Of course, I would NEVER purposely do that. ;-)
