So i am resigning from the cafe after many, many years! for those who are wondering why im placing this here, its so you get to see that this cafe is more than meets the eye:) First off, a big thanks to the friends and indeed family I’ve found at the café over the years. Some are no longer with us and some no longer involved in the café but the memories live on! It’s been a blast! From the first it’s been eventful. Originally working for a year to raise money for a cabaret tour of Europe that ended up funding a touring kitchen and equipment that found homes in squats, camps and activist groups up and down the country. Being a local who (as a newbe to Vauxhall) was able to get involved in the community via the café with some find kindred spirits. This meant that even though I had tough times I had the support of the café members. This meant a lot, and I have to say I’m writing this with a tear in my eye! from gratitude! A lot of history that’s worth celebrating! And though I don’t need to say it? it clearly packs a punch beyond its size. I’m thinking of the benefits, the support to new people in London, the money raised and talent that’s been nurtured. I leave with a funny sense of my own fingerprints being all over the place, not least in the décor, hehe… but on the fabric that are the people. Apart from those who worked and work at the café there are the countless number of folk who have dined with me. The awesome regulars and the occasional adventurers. The musicians and artists that have played and shown films, created poetry and done performance! I am left with memories of friends gathered round the fire while hosting a banquet, crowds of rowdy revelers, collapsing tables, drunken hoards and general silliness! I’m also remembering sad times, yet even they are full of happiness… since the people make the place and the spirit of Bonnington is ever present! As some will know late at night when by yourself!? When I think of the memories I could laugh my head off… seriously! Health and safety aside… we were very naughty! Seeing friends in trashy drag washing up with a fag in the mouth and black rubber gloves will never leave me! Nor will somewhat questionable ideas such as create a fairy-woodland setting in the café and spending what felt like weeks cleaning up leaves and glitter! The biggest call out all goes to my “Crew”, they have come and gone but always been completely amazing! A bloody great laugh, a trial on my nerves! Haha… but I have been lucky beyond words in the friendships and fun we have had! BIG LOVE TO ALL! So it is with a lot of joy I leave the café and onto pastures new. I wish all of you the very best and success in life and the café! I wish the café a grand future that continues to celebrate its past but stands boldly as a beacon in the future. With fondest love and affection. Draeyk
