So i went to the movies tonight and got to pose with Reina-Marie Loader, founder of Cinéma Humain and the film was HORN. A brilliant lived documentary taking in everything around rhino poaching, the animals and the people involved at every level. It is going to be amazing to start working with Reina-Marie in the next few weeks and feels so much better to have someone to share ideas with in Vienna! YAY! Watch this space! About Reina-Marie Loader – Founder and Filmmaker As a born South African, Reina-Marie Loader has been making independent socio-political films since 2002. She has won several prizes and nominations for her films. Cutting Silence, a film on female genital mutilation in Africa, won Best Newcomer at the Durban International Film Festival in South Africa, while her film Sarajevo: Shelved Memories was nominated for the prestigious Learning on Screen Award (British Universities Film and Video Council). She has a PhD in film practice and is now applying her research on the concept of ‘documemory’ to develop innovative ways of creating impactful socio-political films in a media-saturated age. As a filmmaker, Reina-Marie has therefore placed her function at the intersection between practical filmmaking, academic research and social engagement. She is the co-author of the Socially Responsible Filmmaking Manifesto, which was published on the Cinéma Humain website in 2012. In addition to her filmmaking, she has also lectured on film at the University of Exeter and worked as a practitioner on creative projects developed by The University of Reading. She has also been commissioned on additional projects that seek to raise awareness about social issues, notably the Youth Offending Services and the Thames Valley Criminal Justice Board for whom she co-produced an educational media pack about the rise in knife crime among British youths. As the founder of Cinéma Humain, she seeks to develop ways in order to promote and enhance the importance of film as a medium that can directly affect social and humanitarian issues. Her intention is to develop Cinéma Humain into a central platform where the public can actively engage with issues related to human rights and the environment. Her work therefore seeks to offer a service that involves the public in the innovation and development of modes of creative education.
