So if it seems that Ive been a little quiet lately, thats because I lost my phone at the Mercy Hospital downtown emergency room on Thanksgiving evening. You may be interested to know I got there by ambulance. This after throwing up nearly two and one half quarts of blood before I could take one one bite of a meal my wife, son and his wife said was fabulous. So instead of chewing on a tender Butterball, I was having a tube forced down my nose and into my stomach. They tried a few time and ultimately it didnt work. Hurt like a son of a gun each time they tried. So the solution was to try the other nostril. That worked fine as it drained blood from my stomach. On Friday morning as I nearly passed out just trying to stand up, they rolled me down to a surgery room and stuck a scope down my throat to my stomach. I was anesthetized a little but still awake. They found an ulcer near my duodenum and they cauterized it. Problem solved? No such luck as I threw up even more blood. So in the afternoon I went to another surgery room where between 1 and 3 pm on a hard table to block two arteries going to the same place. My butt hurt, which I shared with the medical group. Thinking I could shift after the procedure, I was told I had to keep my right leg still until 7 pm. That was to prevent a rupture in the arteries which would mean we would have to do the procedure all over again. A very effective threat to which I complied. They took me to the ICU where the staff does lots of things -- drawing blood, pumping large IV bags of fluid into me and giving me what would be six units of blood--so they could awaken me about every two hours. Good news is the procedures worked. On Sunday evening, I went back to a regular room and recovered so I could be released Tuesday afternoon. Got a new phone today so I could share this with all of you. Thats what it takes, a near death experience and this was one those, to shut me up. My thanksgiving is that I am still here and chatting.
